Case

Component exchange process and tool development

Project Name: Component Exchange Process and Tool
Customer: Large Wind Operator
Location: North Sea, Europe

Challenge:

The customer was loosing production on several wind turbines due to a failed component. There was no available procedure (work instruction) and the component was too heavy for the technicians to handle manually. The customer did not have the resources and competences to develop the required procedure and related tooling.

Solution:

A team of engineers developed a concept for the exchange process and the tools needed for it, which was presented to the customer for review. Once, the feedback from the customer was implemented the detailed design was executed and a work instruction including risk assessment was developed. The customers own technicians could now exchange the component in a safe manner with the work instruction and tools needed.

The solution was developed outside the customers organization but in close dialogue with key stakeholders including the end-users (technicians).

Outcome:

The solution is now available for the specific site, however, due to the full documentation package, it is possible to share across the customers organization on multiable sites. The value for the customer is not only moneytary in form of avoided lost production, but the intangiable value regarding safety and good working enviroment for the technicain is equally as important.
